Workshops

Ashley Davies and Katherine produce concerts which explore the idea of musical improvisation to art. Ashley and Katherine enjoy exploring the fragile urban beauty in Davies paintings through sound together and have performed together in many of London’s main concert venues and exhibited together in many of Britain’s leading art gallery’s through live performance and recorded sound.

Ashley and Katherine also offer many diverse art/music projects for instance as a family workshop in conjunction with a whole days events for the general public in an exhibition space, the workshop typically lasts two hours and are a continuous programme for children with adults to explore and create artwork inspired by sound.
The workshop caters for a wide range of ages from babes in arms to 19 year olds. Katherine and Ashley effortlessly meld this diverse audience into one body. The sessions use a progression of over 20 interactive games to produce paintings that are inspired by music. The workshop begins with the musical paintings games and the clarinet is given a lively introduction. The session explores ostinato rhythms through the use of play fishing rods which have students fishing out the rhythm as it weaves throughout the music, which leads on paper to “follow the finger” a painting exercise especially suited to the younger members of the audience. As the session gathers pace elephants trumpets, young conductors lead the musician through a series of twists and turns and clapping games have parents trying to remember not to clap to thunderbolts and lightening!
The tables turn at the end of the session when students are invited to individually hold up their paintings and Katherine improvises a piece of music in response to each new art work.
